Unearthing the Dire Struggles in 'Wrong Place, Wrong Time 2021': An Untamed Action Horror Movie Review

Indie filmmaker Tristan Price's latest offering, Wrong Place, Wrong Time, is a non-conforming piece, oscillating between the genres of heist and horror. Rife with showerings of blood and bullets, the film begins as a projected heist flick with intense sequences of a police shootout due to a bank robbery heist gone awry. Muddy visuals and a constant shift in focal points mar the overall movie experience.

Switching gears while being knee-deep in the milieu of a heist, the film then plunges into the domain of horror. The staggeringly high stakes of 14 million dollars, a list of vengeful governments and mafias make the initial part of the movie worth every penny, that is until disaster strikes and the plot begins to disintegrate akin to the botched heist.

The group of mercenaries, caught unprepared, finds themselves holed up in a farmhouse, coil around two prime objectives – fighting off an unnamed monster in the house and finding a route to escape with scarce funds sprinkled with a few twist - like Luther turning out to be a vampire and the clandestine girl being the mastermind behind the entire fiasco.

The cherry on top is the portrayal of the only surviving character, Sage, morphing into a manga-like character complete with a katana and a trench coat during her escapade in Mexico. Sounds exciting yet unbelievable? That's exactly where the movie lies in the gray area of exceeding the limits of gravity to the extent of being incoherent.

The characterization and acting performances play a significant role in the interpretation and reception of any film. Wrong Place, Wrong Time hosts a string of cast members playing archetypal roles. Solomon the sympathetic savior, Gabriel the ruthless killer, Sage the cool-headed fighter, Kira the non-essential presence, and James the insufferable jerk. Yet, these deeply flawed characters add a dimension of reality and rawness but often fall short due to confounding dialogues, resulting in a lack of connect and lost potential.

However, actors Timothy McKinney and Bianca Stein shine through their unforgettable portrayals of Luther, the head vampire, and Natasha, the terrified yet manipulative character respectively. Their performances manage to anchor an otherwise tumbling storyline.
